Vineyards

Around 60 ha of land are under cultivation at our SKOFF ORIGINAL Winery. The mild climate, many hours of sunshine and fertile soils of Southern Styria provide the perfect conditions for our top quality wines. The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand and then processed carefully with great expertise.
„Diversity is the key factor
for great wines.“
Grassnitzberg
Grassnitzberg
In our Grassnitzberg vineyard, the grapes enjoy the warm morning sun and cool nights, which encourage an intensive fruitiness in the wines. The topsoil of Grassnitzberg consists of silt and sand, and the subsoil is rich in calcium—in combination with the climate, perfect conditions for wines with complex, mature aromas and an intensive mineral note that store well.
The upper area of the Grassnitzberg vineyard is planted with Sauvignon Blanc. It is aged in a steel tank, resulting in a juxtaposition of fruitiness and terroir.
Pinot Blanc (Weißburgunder) and Chardonnay (Morrilon) grow at the foot of Grassnitzberg. 90% of the fourteen month aging process occurs in a large wooden barrel and 10% in barrique barrels. Thanks to this process, the wines obtain additional structure and complexity.
Kranachberg
The Kranachberg vineyard is located on a southern facing slope at 420 m above sea level. Its soil is a very porous sandy gravel mixture, which offers perfect conditions for wines with a very expressive minerality.
The grape variety planted in this location is Sauvignon Blanc. Thanks to the southern facing slope, the grapes become extremely ripe, yielding wine with a very intensive, distinctive and individual aroma. Very long maturation and storage of our Kranachberg Sauvignon Blanc is possible thanks to the microclimate in the Kranachberg vineyard.

Hochsulz
Hochsulz
The Hochsulz vineyard is characterized by its muschelkalk soils and its location in a basin formed by slopes that run from southeast to south to southwest. The slopes provide shelter from the wind, yet cold air can dissipate. The interaction between both of these factors results in a higher average temperature within the Hochsulz vineyard, which yields highly ripe grapes.
The grape variety planted in the Hochsulz vineyard is Sauvignon Blanc. By vinifying the wine in a steel tank and then storing part of it (ca. 50%) in a large wooden barrel, we give expression to the intensive minerality and unique grapey fruitiness of this location. Wines from the Hochsulz vineyard have good development and aging potential.
Obegg
Our Obegg vineyard is located on a southern facing slope that receives intensive sunlight and has sandy topsoil and chalky subsoil. While the chalk layer is located further down in the lower part of the vineyard, it nearly reaches the surface in the upper section. Thanks to the intensive sunlight on the southern facing slope, the grapes achieve optimal physiological ripeness. This provides the basis for a semi-sweet, creamy wine with a special variety of aromas. The Obegg vineyard is planted with Sauvignon Blanc. To refine the structure and fully express the variety of fruit components and minerality, 90% of the fourteen month aging process occurs in a large wooden barrel and 10% in barrique barrels. Obegg vineyard wines have a very good development and aging potential.
